How to restore damaged nails with proper nail care
Restoring damaged nails can take time and effort, but with proper nail care and attention, you can improve the health and appearance of your nails. Dry brittle nails appear as white spots on nails and that can lead to ridges on finger nails. Here are some essential remedies you can take to restore damaged nails:
Moisturizing Cuticle And Nails
Moisturizing is the best method for maintaining cuticles and nails. Natural oils penetrate the cuticle and nail the best and make dehydrated nails flexible, preventing breakage. In creating my cuticle oil, I carefully chose natural and nutrient-rich ingredients that are highly moisturizing, hydrating, healing, strengthening, antibacterial and anti-aging.
The JINsoon Primrose + Honeysuckle Cuticle Oil was formulated as a cure for abused cuticles and nails. Remember, the best thing you can do for your nails is to moisturize them!
“When you don’t have enough time for a new manicure, quickly apply the oil to cuticles and nail beds. This will revive and moisturize, giving a fresh-from-the-salon look. Also, before removing polish, apply oil around your cuticles and nail beds. This will act as a barrier and help prevent drying from polish remover.” - Jin Soon Choi
Avoid harsh chemicals
Limit your exposure to harsh chemicals such as acetone and other chemicals like gels, powders and acrylics. These chemicals can weaken and damage your nails over time.
Proper Removal
Gels, powders and acrylics are removed most readily with 100% acetone, which can cause nails to dry out more, but since gels, powders, and acrylics are harder and thicker than regular nail polish, many people file them first with a coarse nail file or electric nail file and then soak them off in acetone. This should be done carefully and professionally in a properly ventilated space.
Gel and acrylics should be fully removed after they are soaked in acetone for long enough so that the polish seamlessly peels off to avoid damaging the nail - forcefully removing using an electronic nail drill or filing too much can remove one layer of your actual nails, so you need to be very gentle when doing this. It's important to be patient and gentle during the acrylic nail removal process to avoid damaging your natural nails.
For regular nail polish, I use non-acetone remover. Lacking acetone, it is far less destructive to your nails. Once all the acrylic, gel nails, or nail polish have been removed, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water, and apply cuticle oil or moisturizer to nourish your natural nails.
Give your nails a break
If you frequently wear nail polish or artificial nails, consider giving your nails a break to allow them to breathe and recover. Overuse of nail products can weaken nails and cause damage over time.
While you are giving your nails a break from nail polish, keep them looking their best by buffing them with a JINsoon Nail Buffer/Shiner. You'll get a shiny, top coat-like look with this buffer/shiner - it's gentle on your nails so it won't harm the nail bed. Simply rub the buff side against your nails to even out the nail bed surface and then flip it over and rub it on your nails again for a smooth, mirror-like finish. Your nails will instantly have a natural shine and a healthy appearance.
Use nail-strengthening treatments
There are various nail-strengthening treatments available, such as nail strengtheners, hardeners, and fortifiers. Consult with a dermatologist or a nail professional to determine which product may be suitable for your specific needs. If you find that your nail needs a bit of extra care in between applications, JINsoon HyperRepair is great to help restore nail strength and can also be worn under polish. Many of our salon clients like to use it as both the base and final coat because their nails look manicured and finished while the HyperRepair is working its restorative magic.
HyperRepair Treatment (nourishing nail strengthening base coat) is all about restoring healthy nails – it simultaneously hydrates, strengthens, and nourishes. This basecoat treatment is packed with nutrients that are proven to restore nail health to perfect quality in just one week after two applications. This treatment can be used as an SOS to promote healthy beautiful nails or as a base coat under polish. Use a regular base coat for healthy nails, nail strengthener for weak or brittle nails, and ridge filler for nails with deep, visible ridges or surface irregularities. When you have serious nail damage, apply twice a week from left to right without touching the cuticle.
Stay hydrated
Drink plenty of water to keep your nails hydrated from the inside out. Dehydration can cause nails to become brittle and prone to damage.
