Peter Do Debuted Helmut Lang SS2024 "Born to Go" Collection; get the nail designs/looks
Peter has always possessed a remarkable vision and an unwavering sense of purpose. He shared his ideas and vision for the nail designs for his show, and this time was no exception. He sent me sketches and drawings of his nail concepts, along with swatches from his collection, without uttering a word. Among these swatches were a sheer fuchsia fabric, a vibrant yellow taxi cab-inspired color, and a more subdued mustard-hued fabric. None of these colors were part of my existing collection, so I pondered whether I should create these unique shades. Ultimately, I made the decision to create these colors in nail polish to support his debut as the creative director for Helmut Lang, a choice that would prove to be just right.
When I returned from the lab with the new colors and presented them to him, he was immensely satisfied. He even paired the three colors with a pair of pants from his collection, highlighting how seamlessly they complement one another.
He aptly dubbed the yellow shade I had created as “yellow taxi color,” aligning perfectly with the theme of his collection. The yellow taxi cab print, featured prominently in various fabrications, paid homage to Lang's pioneering move of advertising on the tops of taxi cabs. Keeping it elegantly simple, we used this color for several nail designs, applying two coats of the yellow taxi color with black and white brush strokes on the yellow base.
Furthermore, he envisioned iconic HELMUT LANG letters on each nail. To achieve this, we used JINsoon Dew as a base and adorned the nails with these letters, symbolizing the brand alongside the vibrant fuchsia inspired by the fabric he had shared with me. And, of course, we incorporated a clean and delicate sheer element to reflect Helmut Lang's signature aesthetic.
The Helmut Lang show proved to be a deeply emotional and moving experience. There were tears shed, and Peter's extraordinary talent was on full display. He is unquestionably deserving of the title of Creative Director at Helmut Lang.
The cinematic runway show paid homage to New York, featuring audio clips from the subway—a nod to the city Peter Do unabashedly represents with his unique vision and artistry.
