Aura Nails - Christopher John Rogers' Collection 012

Christopher John Rogers' Collection 012, "To Have and to Hold, A Happy Cry," Features vibrant pops of color and eye-catching patterns.

This show was amazing!! It was incredibly versatile and impeccably executed - the collection exhibits so many different styles, colors and textures, yet they work really well together as a collection, and I especially like CJR's use of pop colors, as they remain luxurious-looking in his deft hands! It's no wonder why he wanted to do colorful artistic nail designs. And to top it off, I got to watch the show and I genuinely enjoyed it!

Christopher and his director visited me at my Tribeca Nail Spa before the show to go over the nail designs and colors and I noticed that he had turquoise green nail polish on his nails and it looked great on him - I have to admit that I have a habit of looking at people's nails - it must be the nail artist in me! Before I met CJR, I wasn't entirely familiar with his work so I researched him and got to learn more details on his designs and styles. I like his aesthetic and design - versatile, colorful and luxurious. Best of all, I can tell he is a very sweet person, which made me want to work with him all the more.

His idea for the nail design was aura nail art and the inspirational image he showed me was a well done air-sprayed aura nail art sample. Since the JINsoon brand produces regular nail polish, we couldn't achieve the finish of the airbrush, so we chose to go with a more artistic hand-painting effect - it worked really well because it delivers artistic authenticity that the designer wanted to show in his collection. We decided to show three different aura looks - orange, yellow and blue aura using JINsoon colors with a sponge painting technique. It was a crazy amount of work because my team and I had to prepare all of them in advance as press-on nail tips for 50 models, painting them one by one, but it was worth the effort and an honor to work with such an amazing talent. In the words of the maestro himself:

“I was trying to be as honest as possible this season,” Rogers told W Magazine.

“I didn't feel any pressure from outside sources, the industry, customers, or even myself, to prove anything. I was just like, ‘How am I feeling now?’ Honesty, authenticity, and sincerity are my key themes if anything.”

Thank you Christopher John Rogers for having us as a part of the incredible show and thank you team JINsoon for the amazing work on this show. This project reminded me that hard work pays off. The nails looked marvelous with the collection and I felt so fulfilled when I saw the result.

Here are three hand-painted aura effects using different color trios in each one:

Aura #1 (orange aura) - Pixie + Tweety + Pop Orange:

Sunshine like Aura showing very energetic and showing happiness

How-To Steps:

  1. Shape the tip of the CND Coffin Tips using a JINsoon High Performance Diamond Nail File
  2. Apply two coats of JINsoon Pixie to each nail for a sheer transparency
  3. Apply JINsoon Tweety on a small size makeup sponge, randomly dabbing it in all different positions
  4. The first layer should be super light, the second layer should be a bit darker and smaller, and the center dab should be the darkest to exhibit an ombre circle for an aura look. After you apply a color on the sponge, dab it on the paper or foil for a light effect
  5. Do the same with Pop Orange in the painted area of Tweety
  6. Apply JINsoon Top Gloss for a shiny finish - the top coat smooths the uneven paint and shows a stronger aura effect.

Tip: It's good to use a makeup sponge because it's dense and can give a better aura look. But if you are looking for a more abstract painting-like appearance, use a sponge with bigger voids.

Aura #2 (blue aura) - Pixie + Aero + Beau

So fresh and cool blue aura feels diving into deep ocean
